A recent report published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, or ASPS, reveals the impact of COVID-19’s demand for cosmetic procedures.
However, there has been a major shift in the top cosmetic surgical procedures from years past. Typically breast augmentation has been the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure followed by any number of cosmetic body surgical procedures including abdominoplasties and liposuction.
It’s questionable if the trend will continue through the post-pandemic COVID-19. However, as more and more people are allowed or choosing to work from home, and where video communications are more common, this is believed to have precipitated the demand for facial procedures over 2020-2021 with people constantly looking at their own faces on daily video calls which has changed their focus in appearance from their bodies to their faces.
According to Dr. Lynn Jeffers, former president of the America Society of Plastic Surgeons, younger people generally prefer cosmetic breast modifying procedures whereas someone older prefers cosmetic facial procedures. These demographics vary greatly, especially through the COVID-19 response, whether financial standings or job security are anchoring factors in someone’s decisions to have a cosmetic surgical procedure done. Furthermore, more men are choosing to go under the knife as well for a rhinoplasty or other cosmetic facial procedure which offsets the data from previous years.
